Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation is gearing up for a summer filled with vibrant celebrations, cultural richness and community togetherness. The City promises a multitude of events to engage both residents and visitors.
On Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Millennium Plaza Park, let’s celebrate Juneteenth! In collaboration with Respond to Racism, the City invites everyone to commemorate the end of slavery. The program features a special keynote address by Libra Forde, executive director of the Women’s Foundation of Oregon. The celebration continues with musical performances, dancing, nonprofit booths and food vendors, creating a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy. The main program begins at noon.
July heralds the arrival of Star-Spangled Festivities, starting with the Millennium Concert Band’s Patriotic Concert on July 3 at 7 p.m. at Millennium Plaza Park.
On July 4, the Star-Spangled Parade & Celebration takes the spotlight, inviting participants to dress up in patriotic colors and join the procession down A Avenue to Millennium Plaza Park. From lively floats to classic cars and costumed canines, the parade is a testament to our community’s pride and joy. After the parade, the celebration continues at Millennium Plaza Park with live music, a pie-eating contest, and culinary delights from local restaurants, promising a day filled with excitement and fun.
The evening of July 4, don’t miss the Independence Day Concert & Laser Lightshow at Foothills Park from 8 to 10 p.m. Dance the night away with Kalimba: The Spirit of Earth, Wind & Fire, and bring your blankets to watch the mesmerizing laser light show under the stars.
As the summer unfolds, Lake Oswego offers diverse experiences to enchant audiences of all ages. From Movies in the Park featuring family-friendly films under the stars to the immersive performances of OPS Fest, showcasing Shakespearean classics with a contemporary twist, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Wednesday Concert Series further enriches the summer calendar, showcasing an eclectic lineup of musicians and tribute bands. From the soulful sounds of Curtis Salgado to the high-energy performances of Beat Division and Hit Machine, along with nostalgic tunes with Stone In Love, these concerts promise unforgettable evenings of music.
More music adventures on Sunday evenings at Millennium Plaza Park will feature dynamic performances by Barrio Mestizo, the Norman Sylvester Band, Hillstomp and Mbrascatu. From Latin rhythms to bluesy ballads and global fusion, these concerts showcase the community’s rich tapestry of musical talent.
Not to be missed is the Portland Festival Symphony, bringing free classical music to Foothills Park! With its mission to make orchestral music accessible to all, the symphony invites families to enjoy the timeless melodies.
