New York Fashion Week in September — the city was buzzing with style, creativity, and endless flair. Amidst the flashing lights and avant-garde designs, I found myself producing a show that brought together a stunning trio of designers. One hailed from the bustling streets of New York, another was a visionary from China, and the third, a brilliant talent from Vietnam. Each of them was a force to be reckoned with, their designs practically dripping with artistic flair and originality.
But beyond the runway, something magical happened. I met Jean and Valerie — two fabulous women in their late 70s who were not just watching the show, but owning it with their presence. These two were fashion influencers in every sense, radiating confidence and style. I couldn’t resist, I had to ask “What inspires you?”
Jean, with a mischievous glint in her eye, didn’t miss a beat. “We want to show women — whether you’re 70 or 20 — to look at us and know that life doesn’t stop at any age. We’re busy living, learning, and dressing up every day. It’s not just about the clothes, but about feeling fantastic! We’re out here supporting designers and having fun styling ourselves in their creations. Every day is an opportunity to meet new people, exchange energy, and spread positivity.”
The way Jean spoke made it clear: fashion, for her and Valerie, was more than just a lifestyle. It was an experience — a celebration of creativity, joy, and connection.
“These designers we meet are insanely talented,” she continued, “and they’re so generous, offering us their designs. We love figuring out how to style them with themes and locations — it’s a blast! We want more women our age to do the same: dress bold, take risks, and enjoy it. Trust me, you’ll feel amazing.”
I couldn’t let their vibrant energy go unnoticed. So, I invited these fabulous ladies to walk the runway at the end of our show. As they strutted down the catwalk, they were met with applause, heads turning in awe at their confidence and grace. “What a treat!” they cheerfully said afterward, grateful for the opportunity to show that fashion has no age limits.
In that moment, the true essence of fashion came alive. It wasn’t just about the clothes; it was about the people, the stories, the connections. And Jean and Valerie, they reminded us all that style is timeless, and so is the power of feeling fabulous.
